The Ultimate Guide to Final Fantasy VI (6)

Whether it’s for the Super Nintendo or the Pixel Remaster we have you covered with the latest and greatest
Final Fantasy VI (6) tips, tricks and ultimate secrets to help you unlock the ultimate fan experience and unleash
the true story of Final Fantasy VI into your mindhole.
To get started let’s talk about the Characters:
Terra Branford
Terra Branford, also known as Tina Branford in Japanese, is the first introduced character, a mentally-enslaved
Imperial super-soldier gifted with devastating magic. SPOILER ALERT! She’s Half esper baby! Which means
after you take a stroll through the thieve’s Paradise Zozo and the Magitech Facility you’ll be able to unlock her
super Esper Trance mode! She is a fan favorite and has cool hair.
Locke Cole
A daring and cunning thief. He prefers to be called a Treasure Hunter. And you do hunt for a lot of treasure in
this game. He provides some light hearted relief but also a dark past. Use his steal and capture abilities to lift
items off of enemies. Fun fact: The Lies of Locke Lamora is almost definitely inspired by this dude.
Celes Chere
A former general of the empire, some say they don’t think she’s a very well thought out character. These same
people also like to inquire about hotdogs. Other’s think the character is well thought out and just dealing with
the limitations of the game. Regardless she is a love interest of several characters, looks like a famous opera
singer and can use a runic ability to absorb magic. But watch out! She will absorb your parties magic too!
Edgar Figaro
A king who has an incredible magical moving castle. He can tunnel underground and travel to other places using
his castle. It is fun to have a king in your party as he is very rich and powerful. His tool kit is a definite must in
many parts of the game. And he’s handsome too!
Sabin Figaro
Edgar’s twin brother. He avoided being king and instead became an extreme body builder. He knows moves like
Goku does in Dragon Ball Z and they are just as powerful.
Ragin’ Fist: Left Right Left
Aura Bolten: down diagonal-left Left
Suplex: X Y Down UP
Fire Dance: Left Diagonal-Left Down Diagonal Right Right
Mantra: R L R L X Y
Air Blade: go around the directions in a circle once start on Up.
Spiraler: R L X Y Right Left
Bum Rush: go around the directions in a circle once start on Left
Some people call Sabin “Mash”.
Shadow
Some might call him Shadow. Other’s call him Clyde. But did you know his secret nickname is “Hot Dog”
Fans thought this was because he had a dog named interceptor but it’s actually because of something deeper and
more interesting.
In the past (SPOILER ALERT) Shadow was called Clyde, and he was a train robber with his best friend
Baram (Who might later become Kefka, crazy, we know!) But did you know that Clyde’s last name was supposed
to be Hottendogen? This was cut from the game due to memory restrictions on super nintendo cartridges but was
confirmed by Yoshitaka Amana, Hironobu Sakagucho, and Shigeru Miyamota, then poster boy (man) of
Nintendoe of Japan. Final Fantasy was originally a Nintendo franchise. Because of his excellent last name
Hottendogen Shadow ended up with the nick name “The Hot Dog.” This is also a play on his good looks,
something teased but rarely seen because he wears a mask. He also is sometimes called Hawt Dawg, Hottie D
and Shadow Dawg. There has been some confusion there though because Shadow Dawg could also be a
description for Interceptor, Shadow’s actual companion animal. Likely due to this confusion the nickname
“Hot Dog” didn’t stick for long. Put that one on your trivia card. Shadow is a ninja and uses throw technique
and is assisted by his best friend Interceptor. Interceptor has another best friend named Relm.
Relm Arrowny
She is a painter who can use painting magic. She’s very cool! Be careful though, with her sketch ability you can
cause glitches. One of her best friends in Interceptor. She likes her Grandpa and dislikes Ultros.
Cyan Garamonde
Cyan was originally named Cayenne like the pepper. Unlike Shadow he doesn’t have anything to do with
hot dogs. He has really cool sword techniques but a brutal backstory. You have to experience it so we’ll leave
it at that.
Gau
Gau is one of my favorite characters. He is a wild boy like me and was raised by the creatures of the veldt. He
can hang out with the creatures and learn moves. He is by far the most talented character in all of final fantasy
by far because his nature talents let him learn incredible moves and magic without even having espers. He is the
only one who lives like nature tells him to and thus he is all powerful. Luckily he is a sweet little boy and a
muscle head like Sabin can help keep him in check (but he could beat up Sabin if he wanted to!)
Setzer Gabbiani
An airship captain and world class gambler. Setzer has a cool gambling mechanic. He is who you want to be
when you are a teenage boy, and then later you don’t want to be him. He is likely Sephiroth’s great
grandfather - SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER ALERT: when if you beat the game the magic goes away -
or so we think. But really it is reconstituted into the Life Force and becomes Mako. Neat! (fan theory)
Strago Magus
Strago is a Magus who knows powerful magics. His grandchild is Relm and his son in law could have a nickname
equal to a sausage type food if you know what I mean.
Mog
Mog is super cool and dances! Here’s what wikipedia has to say: “Mog (モグ, Mogu) is a moogle who lives
within the caves of Narshe with the rest of his species. He is distinguished from other moogles in his ability
to speak human language, which was taught to him by the Esper, Ramuh, in his dreams. During the game's
introductory sequences, he and other moogles help Terra and Locke escape from Narshe. Later in the story,
Mog can be saved from a villainous thief, Lone Wolf, or abandoned to acquire an item. Either way, Mog
is again encountered in the depths of the moogles' abandoned hollow in the World of Ruin. His class is
"Geomancer", which has skills learned based on the terrain and attacks that incorporate it, such as landslides,
sandstorms, avalanches, and forests. “ Thanks Wikipedia!
Gogo
Gogo is a mysterious person almost as strong as Gau and uses similar techniques to mimic people. They live
inside of a giant worm like in Dune except unlike in Dune you can live in those things.
Umaro
Umaro is real cool! Here’s another wikipedia blurb: “Umaro (ウーマロ, Ūmaro) is a yeti. In the game's world
of ruin, when the player goes to claim the Midgardsormr Magicite item, Umaro will attack the party.
Once defeated, if Mog is present in the party he will be commanded by the moogle to join the protagonists as a
playable character, due to adoring Mog as a boss.Umaro cannot be controlled during battle and can only equip
relics. However, two of these relics, which only he can equip, grant him powerful special attacks. One of these
attacks, granted by the Rage Orb, allows him to fling a party member at an enemy: this does not hurt the thrown
party member and can even damage an enemy a fair amount. The second attack, granted by the Blizzard Orb,
allows him to strike all enemies for ice-based damage.
During development, Umaro was originally meant to be much harder to recruit, roaming different areas of the
game's world map and needing the player to use a food item to bait him to join, a concept later reused for Gau.
Umaro was one of two characters created without any backstory in mind by the development team, the other being
Gogo, intended to be "just there for you to select if you want them to be in battle." In an early mockup of the
game's cast by Nomura, his appearance was drastically different, having prominent pointed ears and a large welp
protruding from the top of his head” - Thanks again Wikipedia!
Jeremiah Jumplustson
Although not an official character he is in some fan mods of the game so he should be included. Has a great urge
to jump. One could almost compare it to our most base desires. A desire to jump. He seems to have a unique
connection to Hottendog or “Hot Dog” otherwise known as Shadow.
Ultros
A really impressive octopus who knows how to dance and how to fight! You shouldn’t underestimate him! Move
your characters to the back row to avoid dying immediately in the first fight against him!
Chupon
A cloud monster who is Ultro’s best friend. He has two heads, which is better than one! He is my friend too.
Kefka
The villain of the game. Play it to find out more!
Gestahl
An evil emperor who looks like a dog.
Cid
The emperor’s evil henchman scientist. Some say he looks like he’s stuffed with mustard. Others say he looks
like a banana. I personally think he is rather evil. There is a secret redemption arc for him if you like.
